Claude connects to your git repo. Then it can read your code, make changes, and push new commits.

Yes I use git, so does anyone do similar process and is there a quick & easy (I am totally new) tutorial for this?

If I remember it walks you through the process of connecting to your github account. If not you need to add Claude in the applications section of your github profile. Then you can point it to your project's repo so it can see your code.

I imagine the process is similar for the Claude desktop app but it can access local git repos instead of remote.

Once you've got these basics setup then you can do as HISEnberg suggested and work with the HISE CLI (something I haven't done yet).

@resonant If you have a dedicated system, I recommend (or at least prefer) to run things locally. It offers some advantages, though I'm not sure what the current state of running Claude in the browser looks like (perhaps it's equally as good at this point).

There's a lot of ways you can configure things. You could also use the desktop app, but I don't personally prefer this since you are losing oversight of the project you set up. In my experience, working with claude from an IDE like VisualStudio Code, or just running it in the terminal, is a lot more powerful.

That being said, it doesn't really matter how you set things up. There's no tutorial since it's fairly new and I think it depends on your preferred way of working. I write a lot of C++ DSP and work in JUCE fairly frequently, so I prefer the IDE.

Just dive into it. Clone those repos I sent you. Open Claude (browser, ide, terminal, desktop app, whatever). Direct it to all the repos: HISE, your project, the CLI, MCP, LSP, and ask it how to setup and configure everything. That's actually one of the benefits to an LLM. Ask it to explain things and how best to configure your workflow. It can guide you. If you have a dedicated machine it's all the better since you don't need to worry as much about permissions and sensitive information getting leaked.

There's a lot of Youtube videos online about using Claude Code. Generally they are pretty garbage. You can learn a lot more by following Antrhopic's own documentation and courses.

I feel that Claude is just too expensive for any real work, is it just me ?

I use Cursor for almost everything now.

just fyi at this point the hise-cli contains the functionality of the mcp server and the lsp server so it's the all in one solution going forward.

I pay $20 per month, seems fine. I mostly use it for making changes to HISE itself or looking up things in the codebase, I don't use it to write HISE script very often.

All the data is still sent to Anthropic's servers and processed there so I'm not sure there is any security advantage to use a desktop app rather than a web one. Definitely some practical advantages though in terms of integration with an IDE or accessing local repos.

I think he means if you run Claude on a dedicated machine there will be far less personal info on that machine to get leaked either way.

@David-Healey Oh yes of course they collect all the data. It's exactly as @dannytaurus mentions, it's more to isolate personal info and letting Claude loose on your local machine instead of having to put gaurdrails and security measures up. There's also a lot of trojans sneaking in from github repos these days....
