    • RE: Romplur vs Maize Sampler still HISE Rocks

      Having used all 3 fairly extensively, here are my thoughts on the 3 different pieces of software for what it's worth.

      I came from both Romplur & Maize before transitioning to HISE. They are easy to use but you hit issues and/or limitations pretty quickly IMO.
      Maize & Romplur are very similar to each other despite the Romplur CEO saying otherwise.

      Romplur has a huge issue if you want to use real sample mapping for each individual note and will just grind your DAW to a halt if you have even a modest number of presets/banks.
      Maize doesn't have that issue at all depsite being the significantly older software.
      With both, you are limited to the built in effects and functionality so if you have far reaching or even moderate ambitions you will hit the ceiling fairly quickly.

      They only really have 2 advantages over HISE and one was mentioned by the OP - that you can export both Windows & Mac format plugins on 1 platform, you don't need to have a Mac to export Mac plugins and so on.
      The other advantage is ease of install.
      Other than that, I would say HISE wins hands down in every other category.

      But in fairness to HISE, once you have got your head around the HISE install/build process & how it works, it's not really an issue tbh

      After making the move to HISE I would 100% never consider moving back to either of the other 2 and the more I learn with HISE, the more possibilities there are and the more powerful/flexible it becomes.

    • RE: Read only factory presets

      @d-healey Turns out you were kinda right and I had done something stupid.

      When I changed the preset browser from 3 to 2 columns I just left the default widths as 3 x 0.33333
      It didn't seem to matter as it worked fine in HISE but in a built plugin it was doing what I described in my OP.

      After your suggestion I flicked it back to 3 columns, re-exported and sure enough the factory presets weren't editable & the add buttons were there as they should be.

      I then changed it back to 2 columns but set the widths to 2 x 0.5 and when I re-exported it this time it was also working correctly.

      Glad I have that sorted as it was really bugging me. Thanks for the assist

      @d-healey ah ok strange.

      Thankyou for your help as I now have it working properly and selecting the correct samplemaps.

      I've also got the expansion load working in daw as well so I can progress with my project which is great news.

      Thanks again, your help is always invaluable

      @Lindon @d-healey

      Thankyou both. I tried both methods and have come up with something that works.

      I need to do a little rejigging of the samples once to get it working 100%.
      That is a one time job and after that I can add new samplemaps without messing up my presets and having to manually reassign the samplemaps which is exactly what I wanted.

      Thanks again, your help is much appreciated

      (I used a Midi Controller to control the Gain).

      	MidiController1.setAttribute(MidiController1.DefaultValue, 127 * (1 - value));
      	MidiController2.setAttribute(MidiController2.DefaultValue, 127 * (1 + value));

      Ah nice. I shall load this up in a bit and have a proper look.

      Much appreciated

    • Fader/mixer between multiple samplers

      What would be the best/most efficient way to have a mixer/fader between 2 samplers so that you can have a custom blend of the 2 gains to give a more unique sound?

      Would it be with script, a macro or is there a native function that can do this and I haven't discovered it yet?

      I don't think I will be able to use a macro as one would be the inverse of the other - as in if you put the fader all the way to the left then you would get 100% of sampler 1 and 0% of sampler 2, put it all the way to the right and you would get the opposite. In the middle it would be 50% of each.

      I would imagine script is the best way to go if there isn't a native function, but I am not really sure how to implement it if that is the case.

      Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

      Thanks in advance

      @d-healey said in Audio files sorting:

      Engine.sortWithFunction("items", sortFiles);}

      You've passed a string "items" as the first parameter. You need to pass an array. Also you have an extra curly brace at the end.

      I switched it to the array and it now sorted them correctly in the test plugin so I just need to make the change in the actual plugin now.

      Thankyou for your help. As usual it is very useful and much appreciated

      I must have left the extra bracket at the end when I removed the rest of the code as I was trying to keep the snippet as small as possible.

    • RE: Sample not triggered if MIDI overlaps

      @rzrsharpeprod

      I downloaded the latest version from Git last night but the issue was still there.

      I am pleased to say that the issue has now been solved by checking the align tick lengths box inside FL. I guess that is why it was fine playing fine in Ableton but not FL.
      The only thing is that some other plugins were playing the MIDI fine without that box being checked. Maybe their samples were perfectly aligned to the first tick or something which is why they were playing ok without the checkbox?

      Either way it is working now so happy days. I can get these projects finalised.

      Huge thankyou to @d-healey & @gorangrooves for helping me trouble shoot this as it has been a real pain. Hopefully this solution helps anybody else who is having the same issue

    • RE: Sample not triggered if MIDI overlaps

      I have now tested this with several different plugins - some with effects and some just a sampler and it happens every time so I don't really know how to get around the issue.

      @Christoph-Hart asked earlier if this is a problem with other plugins and I can confirm that I have tried the same MIDI file in addictive keys, several kontakt pianos and some other keys plugins and they all handle the MIDI fine playing all of the notes within the MIDI.
      I even tried one of my earlier Maize plugins and that plays fine as well. I tried that because I think I remember somebody saying that Maize uses the Juce framework as well but I could be wrong there?

      The issue is quite odd as isn't even consistently dropping the same notes each loop, but in summary:

      If I shorten the overlapping notes that 100% gets rid of the issue but obviously I can't ask a user not to have overlapping MIDI notes.

      If I don't shorten the overlapping notes, they cut out most of the time but the dropped notes sometimes play if I loop the 8 bar MIDI over & over.

      I have tried all of the retrigger modes and none of them solved the issue.

      If I set the playback to one shot it seems to get rid of the issue after some brief testing last night (I need to do more) but this changes the sound and gets 'muddy' quickly when multiple notes are played. I presume one shot mode plays the sample in it's entirety and doesn't factor in the MIDI note length as much/at all?
      If I play with the ADSR envelope I can get it sounding better but I am not sure this is the solution?

      As @Dan-Korneff mentioned in the original mention of this issue, it is literally the last thing stopping release of 2 projects now with a 3rd close to completion.
      Until this is resolved they can't be released as it isn't handling the MIDI correctly.

      Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to give as much detail about the issue & what I have tried so far

      Thanks in advance

    • RE: Sample not triggered if MIDI overlaps

      @Christoph-Hart said in Sample not triggered if MIDI overlaps:

      how does the buffer determine which noteOn/noteOff belongs to which event ID.

      Well, FIFO means First in First out, so the earlier note would automatically get the note off. The other model would be a LIFO (Last in, first out" stack), but I think the result would be super weird.

      They draw in midi for basic drum beats, then drop a midi note right on top of another note to create their flams. Every. Single. One.

      It will probably come down to a preprocessor definition that customizes this behaviour on a per project basis. This problem is more apparent on drum based projects, because you don't need your super VA style Saw synth to flam :)

      I have just encountered this issue and have gone through this thread to try and find the solution but it seems it may still be unsolved?

      I hadn't noticed it before as have just been playing notes in with my keyboard to test my plugin.
      I dragged some MIDI files into the plugin inside FL studio last night and noticed the overlapping notes not playing.
      The odd thing is that the overlapping notes play the first time around (usually) but once they have gone through their initial 8 bar loop and play the exact same notes again, the overlapping ones don't produce sound. That struck me as really odd as if you just play the 8 bars through once you would think it was working ok.

      100% of the time if I shorten the notes so that they don't overlap anymore the issue goes away so it looks to be the overlapping that is causing the problem.
