@lalalandsynth Dude, this is insane. Fantastic work!
If you don't mind me asking, can you point me to a tutorial that would cover knobs and faders animations rendering? Or something that would use the same concept.
Modelling and animating with keyframes in blender wouldn't be a problem. But I probably would need to setup some more details to get it ready to be used in HISE (I need to make a PNG stripe if I'm not wrong).
I'm probably googling it wrong, but can't find helpful material so far. Any help would be much appreciated! -
I dont know of a tutorial , was planning to make one myself.
I will attempt to explain.First off you want the dimensions of the knob to fit your preexisting interface. you could always render at high res and then reduce the size of the knob to fit but lets say you need them to fit.
Say you have a basic interface , in photoshop for example.
Say your interface is 894x700 (just an example)Set you resolution to those numbers.
Open that image in blender ( Import image as planes)
Place that image , set up a camera that captures the dimensions of the interface.( dont resize the plane , model on that and if you set the correct render dimensions it will fit your interface) I am using camera in orthographic mode and you need to make sure it fits the plane to get the correct size render. Now you model the Knob and keyframe it 128 frames for example.
You would like to catch the shadow as well in the render but not see the plane or the background so set the plane to shadow catcher. Object data -Visibility-Shadow catcher.
To get a transparent background , render properties Film-Transparent.So, now if you would render you would get a tiny knob somewhere in the 894x700 frame.
You dont want that , so what you do is go into output properties set file format to PNG , RGBA to get the transparency in the output , click on RENDER REGION and CROP TO RENDER REGION, important !
Then you use CTRLB to select a region for the render , that way it will only render the part you have selected resulting in a smaller image but on that will fit the dimensions.
Select an output folder then hit Render animation !
Open the pngs in something like GlueIt, set rows to one , glue , save !

I have an easier method. Pay @lalalandsynth to do it :)

@lalalandsynth OH MY GOD.
I can't thank you enough. Didn't expect you to do this!
Thank you! This helps A LOT! -
Glad I could help, feel free to ask if you have any questions.
-
@lalalandsynth that's very helpful... i'm learning blender and this info is very helpful, very kind of you to share. Thank you!

Just a reminder , if anyone needs GUI work and is willing to trade for helping me in HISE , both with my current plugins and teaching me then I am more then willing to make a trade :)

@lalalandsynth Are these FX made in HISE?
-
@MacroMachines no , only the Reykjaverb which i am working on.

@lalalandsynth I'm curious about the breakpoint envelope editor, I made a eurorack module that functions like this and had been thinking of making a plugin that uses similar methods. What are the SwitchBlade and Tryptophane using for their envelope editor? is this developed in JUCE or something else? or some kind of animated mockup?
Here is my module : https://www.instagram.com/p/BR2VeH8Ah2d/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

@MacroMachines very cool !
All other plugins are made in Flowstone 64.
Which is a great program but PC only. Its great for potentially making hardware , make plugin , load to Elk , badabing, hardware controlled VST

@lalalandsynth I've tried out flowstone but the PC only factor was prohibitive since I mainly use a mac for music. Is it at all possible to export any C++ code from flowstone that could be used in cross-platform applications or adapted into HISE? Though I am currently mainly curious about how one might develop more complex UI functionality in HISE like these advanced breakpoint envelopes.

@lalalandsynth I mainly use Cinema 4D for 3D stuff, its pretty sick with Octane or Redshift renderers, you can realtime view your physically-based render if you have a decent Nvidea graphics card. I use it for my professional work. I am very curious though how to utilize those techniques to create a properly formatted knob as you have. I figured I would render a sequence of 0-127 frames with the knobs moving, but then I am not sure how to break out the knob from the background and create a properly formatted film strip using photoshop.
Here is my portfolio site if you are curious www.axiom-crux.net
I checked out your website as well, some cool stuff. I dig your UI designs. good UI is so much of what it takes to sell a plugin these days. -
Yeah, the PC only is a bummer , there is no way to get any c++ code from it and I dont think it will ever be crossplatform. Its great for prototyping , also assembling a gui in FS is unmatched.
Have never tried Cinema4d , Blender now has Eevee renderer which is realtime, pretty amazing.
Cool work on your site !If you can render with transparent background, or using the background as a shadow catcher then you can render the knob with the shadow, then there is no need for PS , just glue the pngs together into a strip with Glueit.

Yeah, I played around with that a bit when it was just coming out, opened some demo scenes, and checked it out. I just don't like the Blender workflow/ergonomics in comparison to C4D. I've used a lot of 3D packages in my animation career, and as powerful as Blender is, and for its price point, it can't be beaten :P.
One of the best free opensource programs ever to exist...
but still.. C4D is so easy to get around and get cool stuff quickly.. and I couldn't quite get anywhere near that level of intuitive workflow and productivity in Blender..

Glueit appears to be PC only :/
StripGenerator is for mac ;)

Working on a synth interface . Bit of a mess at the moment but thought it might be cool to post progress and changes.
At this point I am making the knobs , buttons , some kind of idea for a layout , this will all change drastically once I go further .Bit Of shuffling the colours around , bit milder I think.

Some gorgeous work there....love it!
