I’m developing a plugin built with the HISE commercial license. I’d like to allow third parties to create and sell expansions (image, samples + presets) that run inside Raizes.

These third parties would not use HISE at all — they would just provide me with the raw content (samples, presets, image), and I would do the integration into the plugin. End users would then load the expansions through my player.

Since I hold the commercial HISE license (closed source), is it OK to distribute 3rd party expansions this way?

This is a tricky question - the proprietary licensee is the one with the majority of the revenue split so if you just make a shell player (basically Rhapsody without GPL) so that other people can sell their products it would not be covered by your HISE license but your proposed plan sounds OK if it‘s done with a few selected sound designers.

@Christoph-Hart Nice, thanks! Yeah, the idea is to start with just a few sound designers for now — actually, just one who reached out to me, hehe.

So what about the model where I build the "player" and distribute that for free, and expansions (built by other designers) are offered for a price, where the revenue split is either:

              1. I pay a fee to the designer - they get nothing else (I think I know the answer for this one)
              2. The revenue is shared (and the designer get less than 50%) .....

..actually lets have a slightly more convoluted example - because I was actually thinking about doing this:

Lets say the player is free, and I work with 10 designers, each gets 70% of their expansions sales, so as a total Im getting 30% of all sales, and each designer in turn is getting 7% of all sales - assuming some sort of even spread of sales across all expansions...
