Apple has finally included 16GB of RAM in the base model! :)

I know it’s not strictly related to HISE, but it helps when compiling HISE. The new Mac Mini M4 comes with 16GB in the base model, and it costs just $600! :)

It’s not an ad for Apple, haha—I’m just excited to finally sell my 8GB Mac and get the new one. Maybe some of you will be happy about this too!

@bendurso If all you want is the base model then yeah, I think this is a great step up and an awesome deal. As usual though with Apple products, if you want anything above the base. Yikes, hope you're willing to pay almost 5x market prices for RAM and NAND upgrades.

@bendurso For that price it's tempting to get the new M4 Mac mini just for compiling HISE and running Parallels for Windows exports.

If Apple makes you think $600 is a good price for a computer with 16gb of memory that you can't upgrade then they have done their job

Is it the one with the power button on the bottom? I guess the guy who came up with the USB connector position on the Magic Mouse got a promotion lol...

But jokes aside, 600 bucks is a no brainer for this device, if it holds up with the performance of the previous silicon models.

@d-healey Haha, well, maybe I'm a bit of an Apple fan, but with an M2 and 8GB of RAM, I can handle most tasks—video editing, fast rendering, compiling HISE in 3 minutes, music production.. I can't imagine what the M4 with 16GB would be like! :)

@d-healey the memory is really stupidly fast, though.

If you get the trim with the most memory, you can run beefy LLMs on it well, for a lot less money than what it would cost to get the enterprise Nvidia cards and build the system around them, and with better resale value at that.

If capacity is a bigger issue like for sample libraries, then yeah, I agree. Though I haven't tried using page file to supplement, as storage these days is above ddr2 speeds.
