HISE plugin as virtual midi port?

Hello people,
i was thinking about making my own trigger fx plugin, but before i start working on it, I'd like to make sure it is actually doable with HISE.
It should only get the transients and translate them into midi messages, without triggering samples, and until here i found snippets that might help. But then on the instrument track, the plugin should be selectable as midi input.Can a HISE plugin appear as a virtual MIDI device/port in the DAW? Or would it need specific implementations for each possible host?
Basically it should appear here with the stock studio one Gate plugin and the steven slate trigger.

@ScreamingWaves in the project settings there is an option for Enable Midi Out . Does that do the trick?

no, i tried it out with the snippet i found and it does not show up. In that list usually also show up external keyboards, so maybe it needs some more advanced settings than just having midi outputs?

@ScreamingWaves Are you building VST3? That specific SDK is not great for supporting MIDI-FX. There is some discussion about it on this forum. If you are able to test AU, or just VST (disable VST3 Support in the project settings), it may work.
What example snippet do you have? The docs mention you need to forward MIDI messages using
Message.sendToMidiOut() -

i dont think it would be a midi fx though, since it should be put on an audio track?i will try to export the AU instead of the VST3, and see if the issue is the SDK

I tried, exporting it as VST or AU did not solve it.
so it looks like it's not possible, or it would be more advanced than i thought :/

@ScreamingWaves Probably, it might depend on the DAW.

@ScreamingWaves gave this some more thought. I think you would need to build it as an instrument. Then whatever DAW you are in, just route the true input channel to a second channel with your instrument on it. Audio In -> MIDI out.

@HISEnberg Yup. This is the fix but kind of a hassle to have to explain to everybody how to route midi messages in DAW. This as is definitely works but would be nice to drop it before an instrument on the same track like how midi fx usually works.

@Chazrox But isn't it an audio effect that outputs MIDI rather than a MIDI effect?

@David-Healey I guess you're right. I haven't tested any automation through that method yet. Only midi messages.
