@bfaudio ChatGBT is quite good at creating code snippets for wordpress and woocommerce.

Checking out for just a demo version is a bit laborious for the consumer, not least because they need to create an account too, which can turn people off. But we want their contact info. My plan is to have the customer fill out their email address in exchange for the demos.

@DanH in my case they need an account in order to download from the Control Centre app and activate the timed limited license

@ustk that's a lot of effort for a customer! I make demo versions of my products, as in a completely different plugin name. Annoying for sure but possibly makes delivery simpler for the customer

A little effort/friction can be good. Someone downloading with no effort probably won't become a customer.

@d-healey got any research to back that up?

                  @DanH Only my own stats

Freebies so far for this month

                  88f9e51e-ce31-433b-8de8-c6804b4166df-image.png

And I've had 4 paid orders.

Only one of the paid orders took the freebie, and that was after they'd bought something.

@d-healey yes freebies seem to rarely translate into sales! I saw one idea which was rather than a freebie, price it at $1 or something. This apparently seems to get rid of most of the freeloaders whilst getting more valuable customers into your database.

But for demos I dunno. Maybe I should look at my own data actually 😆

@DanH I guess it depends on the kind of limitation your demo has too.
If you want a fully functional demo, you'll want to limit in time.
And if you limit in time, you want to keep piracy as far away as you can, so use an unlocker.
And with unlocker necessarily comes an account...

This my not be the best paradigm, but still defendable imho.
I agree with a bit of friction, I don't find it myself to hard to be 2 click away from a demo.
Then nowadays, almost every brand has a downloader/license manager that adds steps anyway.

@ustk I've been adding noise bursts to my demos with dsp. Also if it's a Rompler you can limit the sample maps available in the demo to give just a taste of the real thing.

Yes, I've done this a few times, it's good. If you use FB ads you'll probably break even. And then on the back-end/follow up you can make a nice profit.

@DanH I agree for samplers. Though burst noise has a bad bad reputation, people hate that.

Also this allows to develop and maintain only one version of a product, since it's the license that is either full or demo.
