Lag in Develop...

is anyone else experiencing this?

• knobs in interfaces sometimes dont respond, then jump to new (distant) values
• the Scope display will pause in the middle of playback, then glitch to start gain
• the preset browser scroll bars dont respond then jumps up or down
• the preset browser is generally very slow to show a list of presets, or a set of sub-categories..

All of this on Windows, both for me and the beta testers...

@lindon I had this on an fx plugin made with develop. I eventually rolled it back to master until I could figure it out (works fine on master)

I haven't seen it here on any platform using all of the latest develop commits. Currently not using IPP.

@lindon Are you not asking too much processing in a timer, paintRoutine, LAF function, etc... ?
A while ago I experienced UI lag because I had too much component on the interface (several hundreds I reckon because of a big mod matrix)

nope - just projects initially built with Master - which now compile and run in Develop....I heven't spent enough time in Develop to build and complete anything from scratch.

Well I don't think it's "too many widgets" - as this has not been a problem in Master, and as it happens I'm running two timers only - 1 to do VU meters and one(when they are asked for) in the presets - but now in develop I'm using the pre and post preset load callbacks so - I'm actually using less timers than in Master.

Opening the preset browser and loading up some sub-categories (about 15 of them) is taking a very long time to do in Develop

Cant say I'm seeing the same results on Mac....

@lindon I've just taken a look at the assertion in the source jassert(f.exists() && f.isDirectory()); It doesn't look like it should be causing a lag issue, so I guess this is unrelated to your problem after all.

@d-healey - well in any case its not just the presets browser that is behaving badly - its widgets all over the place... I think its a bigger problem.

I cant get the develop branch to behave well under windows at all...

minimal? no. I think this is about scalability...

@lindon - so more experimentation - the preset problem is to do with the number of presets in a sub-category - 10 or 12 no problem, 30-100 presets? - big problems....as soon as the number of presets is bigger than the page there are problems.

I just made a "minimal project" - no back end no sound nothing only widgets

30 sliders, 15 buttons and 15 combo boxes... Button 1 turns on/off a panel holding a stock preset browser.... as soon as I create more presets than fit in a single screen I get really really bad lag.

I copied and pasted the same preset 30 times and its nearly unusable...
