A new SampleEngine is here

Because the code belongs to you - so reselling is restricted - ergo proprietary
The copyright belongs to Christoph, but that doesn't make it proprietary.
Proprietary software, also known as non-free software or closed-source software, is computer software for which the software's publisher or another person reserves some rights from licenses to use, modify, share modifications, or share the software.
With HISE you can modify, share modifications, and share the software without paying for a commercial license. You only need a license if you want to restrict other people (your users) and at that point your product becomes proprietary.

@d-healey Ok

@MikeB by 8dio guys

Now why should I pay license fees if I want to use it commercially.
You need to pay if you want it to use proprietary (!= commercial), but this does not make HISE proprietary.

@Christoph-Hart Ok - I must have misunderstood then

@d-healey I’ve followed the announcements and vi-control threads on this release. But I’m still a bit in the dark what it actually does or more how it does what they told us it’s doing… There’s some theories out there… I tested it today and I does sound really nice!

Soundpaint™ is advanced artistic expression in your computer. Designed by artists and for artists. There are no VC investors here. Soundpaint is entirely a community-sponsored platform. We take pride in our independence and being able to develop creative tools designed around everyday workflow. Soundpaint is designed
Soundpaint (soundpaint.com)
Soundpaint is designed in such a way that all instruments live together. This offers an extraordinarily fast creation environment where anyone can make an entirely new music instrument in less than 5 seconds. All running with infinite dynamic layers and without any perceivable load-times on SSD.
No idea what this even is... Some sort of vector blending between samples/instruments? Filters and transient-shaping creating the "infinite dynamics"?
The integrations with the 8dio marketing stuff seems pretty insane but tbh.
Someone just make a functional style-transfer ML algo so I never have to record a sample again

@iamlamprey IMO Kontakt, UVI, Soundpaint are just a way to fidelize customers and devs. No real tech advantage AFAIK till today

I think in 2021, releasing a "New sampler" software sounds pretty "Outdated". Because this same technology has been used for ages. For me new fastfood brand to be listed under Burger King and Mc Donald's.
It would be a much much more better idea to make a no-sample engine like Audio Modeling company did. And that would be an evolutionary change for the whole World.. .
