Keeping your products safe - Pirating
-
I know it's impossible to completely keep your products off the black market, but, what have you found to be the best solution? I've been finding my products on all sorts of pirated audio plugin sites (audioz.download, audiolove.me, etc).
Although I guess it isn't all bad for a newer brand as it brings me a ton of new eyes. I'd just rather limit it as much as I can.
Any suggestions or direction?

@trillbilly Then the Unlocker is made for you.
Look at the doc and search the forum, I talked about it at different places and Christoph corrected and saved me a lot of pain!
You need a server communication for this, and roll out your own web code in order to create the licenses.
Or Christoph just released a ready made solution you can use -
@trillbilly you also want to use a service to remove those illegal links to your software.
I'm using https://tracksaur.com/ -
@Dan-Korneff Thought we discussed about this ages ago and it wasn't reliable?
Might be my misunderstanding though, or frying brain...Hmm... No price plans on their website ?
-
Best thing to do is to make it simple, fast and easy to purchase your products.
-
Another usually overlooked factor is payment processor with good anti-fraud protection. In most cases pirated plugins are bought with stolen credit cards. Once we switched to a payment processor with better anti-fraud, we see less pirated products (and less chargebacks).
-
@DanSound Interesting, do you recommend one in particular? Is PayPal a good pal?
-
@ustk it works great for me. Any new link that pops up is dead within a day.
-
@ustk We're using Fastspring, they have integrated PayPal so I have no experience with PayPal as a main payment processor.
-
@ustk I got no problems so far using paypal. I also use stripe for credit card payments and they have good security/verification processes. I got a few payments in the past which were refused due to suspicious activity. They also use 3D secure verification if the user's bank supports it.
@Dan-Korneff can you disclose roughly a price range when using their service ? (or maybe you're under NDA...?)
-
@DanSound @Matt_SF I'm currently implementing Paypal, and since they offer credit card payment I'll probably use it instead of bothering with two solutions.
I asked Tracksaur for their price plan. Answer: Prices are set individually, provide more information about your product and I send you more information and offers...
No plans, prices made on how you look, do this in France and you'll go to jail in no time -

Haha, darn right... Ok thank you for the info
At the beginning I intended to use PayPal only, but some users were confused because they thought they needed a paypal account, even to pay by credit card.
-
@Matt_SF I just looked at my docs. No NDA. I believe the pricing was quoted on the amount of products. I'm under $200/ month. Well worth it in my opinion.

@Dan-Korneff Ok thank you for the info, indeed it seems to be worth it
