Adding Send FX
-
There is no native Send FX functionality in HISE. But you can achieve something similar using empty channels of a Container and the RoutingFX effect.
In our example, we want a reverb as send effect.
Change the channel amount of the Container
A Container has a variable channel amount (from 2 - 16 channels). If you want to change the channel amount, click on the routing button, right click on the matrix and select the amount you want to change. Then you need to route the channels back two the main two outputs:
Add a routing effect
The routing effect allows to duplicate the signal and send it to another channel. In order two add a send connection, you need to press the Shift key when clicking on the channels (the channel colour will turn cyan to indicate you are about to add a send connection).
Add a gain effect and the reverb
Now you can add a Gain FX and a Simple Reverb that will be used in the send slot. Change the wet amount of the reverb to 100% (like you would normally do for send FX).
Change the channels of both effects
Every FX has also a routing matrix that allows to change the channel pair that is processed by the FX (by default every FX is a stereo FX). The matrix of a FX doesn't allow advanced routing, so a simple click on a source channel changes the connection. We'll need to change the channels of both the Gain and the Reverb to
3+4
That's it. The
Gain
parameter of the Simple Gain controls the "send amount". Remember to rename the FX in a real patch (something likeReverbSendMatrix
,ReverbSendGain
,ReverbSendFX
).In a script, you would then use this line to get the Gain effect:
var reverbSendGain = Synth.getEffect("ReverbSendGain");
and in the control callback:
reverbSendGain.setAttribute(reverbSendGein.Gain, value);
If you need another send FX, just add another empty channel pair and repeat the steps above.
Be aware that Filter effects are processed before any other FX (because they are processed before the voices are summed up to allow polyphonic envelopes). Therefore trying to use a filter as send FX won't work.

So I see this explaination shows how to set up send effects , but I dont see how I route my sampler(or its container) to multiple send effects? When I go into the Sampler(or its parent) I can see its main outs going as required to 1 & 2 in the master chain, all good. I also see the other 10 destinations in the Master Chain, again all good these are the stereo destinations for my 4 send effects.
So far I have set up two send effects , one using 3 & 4 and one using 5 & 6. But but but.. I cant route to all of these, only 1 set (3 &4 OR 5 & 6).. I'm clearly doing something wrong....
I want a send rack - with (say) 4 effects in it. and I want to route each audio generator to each send effect, AND for each of thes sound sources I want to to set the amount I SEND to each send (I cant see how the gain control is doing this - its sitting in front of the send effect itself , sort of like a return control really)
-
You just need another Routing Matrix:

OK I managed to load yous snippet. That's not a send! the FX is dedicated to this Sampler!
Sine Wave Generator is routing to 1 & 2.
it passes through Send1, which routes the signal to 1 & 2 and sends to channels 3 & 4
in channel 3 & 4 is Send1Gain which attenuates the send signal
next in line is Delay 2 which performs the FXSo problems:
I cant have another Audio generator that sends a different amount to Send1

You need RoutingMatrixes for making send effects (they are the only way to duplicate signals as shown above).

The sampler is a bit special in the case that it can have multiple channels when using multimic samples.
All other sound generators are stereo only. So in order to use multiple generators with multiple sends, you'll have to wrap them in a Container:

it might be useful to put these (working) examples in the documentation area?
-
I'm tinkering with using an aux send on my instrument, and it's working pretty well.
I would think that since the routing is split to 2 places, the aux would be a pre fader send (aka independent of the Simple Gain FX that controls the output of the sampler), but It appears that the send is "post fader".
Is there any way to change that?
Hopefully I'm explaining that correctly. -
