Firebase or Serverless Systems

Is anyone using Google Firebase for database management
or
Serverless Computing Systems for website hosting? -
I'm using firebase in work as frontend dev. But now when i learn node i prefer creating simply rest api with mongodb.
It depends on your requirements. What kind of site you have? Wordpress or something own written in js?

I am usingg Wordpress Woocommerce website. How it is possible to fetch or migrate Wordpress Woocommerce website database with Firebase?
I am asking this because Firebase system is very fast for API requests, since it is based on cloud platform, not a classic dedicated server system. Or any ideas? -
@orange it’s not possible on firebase because fire store don’t have MySQL database. You must find some normal hosting. But if you want fastest server you can use Amazon AWS

yes it doesn't use mysql but it seems like, it is possible. There is a plugin that makes this fetching / synchonisation with Wordpress website and Firebase.

I know Amazon is fast, actually I am asking alternative methods like serverless systems.
By the way, which AWS plan is best and fastest you think? Serverless (Lambda), EC2 or S3? There are lot's of options, it is hard to decide
-
@orange I'm using S3 for my sample libraries. Seems to work well on this end.
-
What about using a CDN instead? I use BunnyCDN with my WooCommerce site.

For website hosting are you using that too?

I think CDN is helpful but it can conflict with Woocommerce data while caching.
Are you able to disable Woocommerce data while caching? Otherwise cart page will be static html and it won't work properly right? If Hise can work with Firebase, the server requests would be in huge speed...
-
@orange I use W3 total cache and the BunnyCDN plugin. I exclude some of the dynamic pages from the cache and from the CDN.
-
@orange just for file server. I'm actually upgrading to Fiber at the studio so I can host everything in house.
-
@dustbro You're going to host your ecommerce website on your own server?
-
@d-healey yup
-
against my better judgement... and warnings from professionals I respect :face_with_tongue:
-
@dustbro Do you need any kind of insurance against data breaches since you'll be storing customer data?
-
@d-healey yup. You'll need Cyber Liability coverage. It's surprisingly affordable. Since woocommerce uses paywalls to collect and process payments, it becomes their responsibility (paypal, stripe, etc) to protect that data. You're only liable for data your store on your server (names, addresses, etc).
FYI, everyone should be carrying Technology Errors and Omissions insurance as well. If your software causes an unforseen expense to a customer, they could hold you liable.

Well that depends upon a couple of things:
- which country you are in and the local laws
- What your software license says...
-

I don't have a lot of faith in this. I can imagine a litigious customer making a lot of expensive noise about how the license doesn't cover their particular situation.

Well if it didnt work we would be seeing a LOT of class action suits against Apple and Microsoft, and we dont.
-
@Lindon we actually do see a lot of class action suits against these companies. Apple was ordered to pay $500M last year for "planned obsolescence" with their iPhone
