AAX SDK setup
-
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to build my plugin in AAX format but the process isn’t entirely clear to me yet. I have a few questions:
• Is a physical iLok dongle required, or is iLok License Manager sufficient?
• Do I need to register as a development partner with Avid, and is there a fee involved?
• What’s the correct procedure to get started with AAX development?
Any help or pointers to the right resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -
@pelle you need to contact Pace for this. Everything in their SDK is proprietary, all I can say is:
- it's free to use if you just want to sign AAX plugins without iLok protection
- you need an iLok dongle to sign (alongside their other toolkits)
- once you get the SDK, you compile it, put it at the correct position in the HISE folder, compile the AAX version of your plugin, then sign it with the wraptool.

@Christoph-Hart Thanks! Just to clarify, is it also free if I want to sell the plugin commercially and have it work with the Pro Tools standard version (not the dev version)?

@pelle afaik yes

@pelle I think you can use ilok cloud, I'm not sure a physical one is required, I could be wrong though.
It's free to sign aax plugins but you will need a signing certificate for each OS.
If interested, I have made some workshops that cover the signing process (they don't cover setting up the SDK). https://audiodevschool.com/course-bundle/packaging-workshop-bundle/
