Reverb DSP and Allpass Filters
-
Can anyone suggest some good reading material (not too maths heavy) that explains the relationship between algorithmic reverb and allpass filters?
I'm working on a simple reverb in scriptnode using modulated delay lines and getting the classic "robotic" sound with low early repetitions which is apparently solved by using Allpass filters sequentially before the delay line, but I have no clue how to set that up in scriptnode or what settings to use for the filters...
In fact I don't even know what an allpass filter is for, to me that just sounds like a filter that does nothing

Okay this video helped explain allpass filters :) no idea how this would supposedly increase early repetitions but that's what testing is for i suppose

You might find some of the info in the blog on the Valhalla dsp website interesting.

@crd Thank you!

@iamlamprey Hello! Did you managed to built a simple reverb with allpass filters in scriptnode? Trying to do it myself too, but can't figured up how those allpass in scriptnode should I use. Was trying to make a reverb in Bitwig Grid with the help of allpass filters there - worked pretty good

@nouslou I believe the all passes in bitwig work a bit differently. I watched a video yesterday on the subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKuHMdX6_7s. And I attempted to remake it in script node, but it didn't sound like I expected it too. (Reverb is at around 7 minutes)

@nouslou unfortunately I have the attention span of a goldfish so I don't think I got very far before switching projects
