Longstanding XML Component Tree Corruption Bug

Reported by multiple over the years — while editing the Component Tree, there will suddenly be two instances of one or more components - but these are "phantom" components, as they can't be selected. The only solution is to "prune" the tree, and recreate whatever you deleted in the process.
