Tips for making impulse responses
-
Does anyone have any tips for creating reverbs from a plate / spring reverb unit?
Is it as easy as playing a sine sweep or white noise into the unit and recording the results?
Is it okay to judge the results using ReaVerb and assume that is what I will sound like in the Hise convolution reverb?

@crd I use Andrew Wade's pure impulse file:

Edit: it should work for reverbs too

@iamlamprey Thanks for sharing! I will check that out.
ReaVerb is making this process pretty easy. I used this video as a reference:

Voxengo Deconvolver is a good way too ;)

@orange Yes and definitely use a sine sweep instead of a single impulse when recording or your impulses will get super noisy.

In case anyone has the same question in the future, I'll leave the settings I used to capture a nice plate yesterday that seems to have given good results. At least in Reaper's ReaVerb.
I recorded at 96k/24bit and used a 10 sec sweep. The gain staging took some finessing.
