Viewports --- clearly I dont understand...

I cant seem to get viewports to work at all....

I can add a button and it shows up - but if I add another the first disappears and the second cant be moved...

a work around is to put a panel in the viewport - but surely thats not right...

A viewport can only have one control in it. So you are correct with your solution.
