Set the Frequency of the Sine Wave Generator?
-
Does anyone know how to set the frequency of the sine wave generator? (The documentation appears to be incomplete.) Cheers.
-
@clevername27 I was wondering that too but all I could get is it playing the frequency according to the midi note played
-
@Morphoice Yeah, that's weird? But obviously you can set the frequency of a sine wave generator in a virtual instrument system.
-
@clevername27 Use a scriptnode osc if you want to set a frequency other than from a MIDI note.
-
@d-healey I appreciate that—but surely there must be a way to simply set the frequency of the sine wave generator…it's the single most basic function I can think of in a virtual instrument system. (I've gone ahead and built the ScriptNode synth, though it's a huge amount of overhead just to generate frequency-specific sine waves.)

@clevername27 said in Set the Frequency of the Sine Wave Generator?:
a way to simply set the frequency
It expects MIDI notes which will set the frequency.
-
@d-healey I get that (and thank you), and that's useful. But at its core, the most basic thing a virtual instrument system can do is (simply) generate sine waves that you set the frequency for. So I'm just a bit baffled here.
-
@clevername27 If it's a virtual instrument I would expect that it plays frequencies that match MIDI, why would you want anything else (other than for microtuning I guess)?
-
@d-healey Because not all overtones are harmonics.
-
@clevername27 Are you trying to do additive synthesis with it? What about using a waveform generator, there you can control the semi-tone and octave shift, you still can't set a fixed frequency though.
-
@clevername27 if you don't mean in scriptnode, then you can do like this with the factory osc
