Open source GPL = Linux ?
-
Is the beginning of the GPL license related to the birth of Linux? Before Linux, there was no GPL license? Or is it unrelated to Linux? The licensing topic is a difficult topic for me. And I have a million questions.. but from the basics: before the birth of Linux, the concept of open source software did not exist?

@Robert-Puza yes it existed before Linux, though it wasnt called GPL, look up the Free Software Foundation as a start...

@Lindon Ok. Thank you

The GPL was created by Richard Stallman in the 80s. Linux was released in the 1990s, originally under a proprietary license and then it changed to the GPL.
Linux uses the GPLv2, JUCE/HISE uses GPLv3.
The term Open Source was officially coined in 1998.
