Updating Expansions JSON File

Alrighty, so I'm using Encoded Expansion mode and making use of a .JSON file to tell the host plugin what "type" of Expansion is being loaded, this sets all the relevant Sampler settings, playback functionality and things like Images/Presets upon loading the expansion. In the compiled plugin, this JSON file is encrypted inside the .hxi file of the expansion.

What would be the best method for sending updates for this JSON file for end-users without forcing them to re-download the entire Expansion? I tried File-Based Expansion mode but everything just went to hell (missing images, samplemaps etc).
