opaque panels

Enabling this property turns my panel black and ignores the paint routine. Is this what it's meant to do?

No it's a hint to the graphics renderer that the component is not transparent (so it can skip rendering the area of its parents). However if the component is transparent, it will create flickering and glitches. Are you filling your component with a intransparent colour?

@ustk Aha that makes sense. I wasn't filling in the entire background and as Christoph suggested I do have the panel's background colours set to transparent.
