How do I make vst use less cpu and stop vst from having "latency"

Hey I have made a vst but It takes a lot of cpu when i use it and once i open 3+ instances it completely lags I cant even make music with the vst. Also my vst seems delayed almost as if the sample doesnt come in the same time as when the note is played like its a little off beat please help because i've snippet the silent beginnings off
