Words of Encouragement for Students Learning HISE
-
Hello friends,
I'm excited to be co-teaching a summer course called "Audio Software Design" at The Evergreen State College about DIY plugin design. My teaching partner and I chose to build the class around HISE because of how musician-friendly it is, the open-source philosophy of the project, the vibrant forum community, David Healy's excellent tutorial videos, and the relatively gentle learning curve compared to raw C++/JUCE. For those of you who have been around a bit longer, do you have any words of encouragement or advice for audio engineering students getting into plug-in design with HISE?
Thanks!

Yes - the documentation is not amazing. (Sorry to people who worked on it.) Coming from a platform like Native Instruments Kontakt, their KSP guide includes examples and use cases that are decently commented. At least they tell you possible values for function arguments. So my encouragement is to USE THE FORUM!

I don't know if this is encouraging.
"Everything is hard before it is easy" So have fun and enjoy the learning experience.
I think exploring HISE for the first time and continually discovering its capabilities is very rewarding. Even now I'm finding new things, and new ways of doing old things. It's endless.

@skyscapeparadise As a college music tech lecturer myself, I think HISE will help build the skills and foundations to prepare students to embrace lower-level engineering.

@ericchesek Every time I want to complain about the documentation, I remind myself that is nothing is stopping me from updating it myself.
