Macro Controls Unavailable in Compiled FX Plugin

is this normal behavior? I cannot right click at all in the compiled plugin when i compile it as an FX Plugin but when I compile the same project as an Instrument Plugin I can.

as a test i exported it as a midi fx plugin and am able to right click inside it but this project is an FX plugin. what gives?
