How to Do Single-Shot Crossfades?

I have a one-shot drum playback instrument, and want to create a realistic effect for when a drum is struck that was already resonating (from a previous strike).
Fortunately, each instrument handles one (and only one) drum articulation. For example, the ride cymbal bell, and ride cymbal tip, are two different instruments.
I'm thinking this would be done with a crossfade between the two notes, lowering the overall volume of both notes, and decreasing the attack slightly on the second strike note.
For starters, I understand this would mean it's no longer a one-shot sampler. After that, I get a bit lost.
In terms of HISE, I'd need two gain modulators? One would be a constant—for decreasing both note's overall overall volumes. The other would be an ADSR—for changing the attack of the second note, and doing something with the release values for the crossfade. If this is correct, then should I use two gain carriers (maybe the sampler's gain for one, and a Simple Gain effect for the other), or somehow chain both modulators together to one gain carrier?
If I am somehow able to sort that out, I also need assume that this will work for more than two simultaneously-resonating hits.
Does anyone have any ideas of experience with this?
