Is it possible that with a ComboBox the popup does not open downwards but upwards?
I can't find anything about it in the laf-features.

@MikeB The Pop up Window Depends On Where Your Interface Is Located On Your Screen.
Kinda Dynamic To Your Screen To Avoid Getting Unredable.

Test It On A Dead Corner Of Your Screen, It Opens Up In Another Direction Than What You Expect.

@Natan That's what I thought too - but no matter where I position the popup
it always opens downwards - beyond the interface.

@MikeB Put It On Down Corner And move Your Interface To The Same Corner It Opens Up Upward

Use Interface Preview To Double Check:

From Top Bar Menu ...
Go To View >>> Add Interface Preview
And Interface Will Pop Up
