Preload/Buffer settings

The custom settings floating tile has options to choose either SSD or HDD streaming but these options don't seem to affect the preload or buffer size of samplers. So what's their mechanism of action? And could we get some drop down menus to allow the user to choose the preload/buffer sizes?
