Is there a way to force the keys on the computer keyboard to maintain pitch mapping to piano keys on a standalone instrument?

When I use the keyboard I need to click on one of the keys before the computer keyboard will engage with the piano roll. I want to have it so that the keys on the computer's keyboard are always mapped to trigger their respective notes on the piano roll. Is anyone familiar with a way of doing this that they can share?
