Automation writes from sliders, not from panels

In the DAW (Ableton in this case), the plugin follows the automation well. But when moving some controls in the plugin, the DAW doesn't always receive automation.

If this parameter is a slider, no problem, the DAW receives automation.
If it's a panel (that has a hidden slider of course), it doesn't. Although, after updating the slider with the panel's value, I call slider.changed() so the slider's callback is triggered. It appears that triggering the callback and clicking the slider with the mouse are two different things.

But controlling the plugin from the DAW work in either case

Is it normal behavior or is there something I missed?
