Is hise for me ?
-
Hello everybody, total newbie on Hise, looks like a very good place...
As sais in the title I wonder if Hise is the good plateform for me.
I NEED to create a custom percussion sampler for a futur commercial e-drum product (check here on facebook : https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090543753335 ;
or here on VDrums : https://www.vdrums.com/forum/general/products/1279932-new-pad-electronic-conga-djembe).
I tried to use SFIZZ (SFZ player) that is now part of Synthedit (which I know quite well), but after some time spent to really be sure eveyrthing can be handle I must give up. SFZ format don't allow enough things (no way to let the user set custom notes, no way to handle correctly cymbal chokes, etc).
So now I have two possibilities, Kontakt or Hise. I wonder if Hise is really the good plateform for me and for my project. So I have few questions to help me choose between those two pateforms. I'm not a master at coding, but I'm very motivated. I just want to be sure I will not threw away hundreds hours of work on Hise to finally go to Kontakt...-
My sampler will not necessarilly be commercial, but in case it will stay in GPU, I'd like that my samples stay protected. Is there a way to encrypted securely our samples in Hise ?
-
Is there a RAM mode ? I see that Hise can do Disk streaming, but beeing an Edrum project, RAM is the way to go.
-
Are ployphonic aftertouch supported ? And could they be used to mute a sound and trigger a mute tail sample (like cymbal coke) ? It's mandatory for my project. I guess it is supported and I can already see the power of the midi editor, just want to be sure.
-
Is there a drum sampler in GPU that I could use as a template for my project ?
Thanks a lot for answering those questions, see you soon.

I forgot one :
- Mac M1 supported ? Does I need to own an M1 mac to export mac plugins and standalone app for mac ?

GPU? Do you mean open source? So your source code will be available along with the compiled plugin? Your Samples will be "encrypted" in the ch1 format which only load in HISE. Of course there's nothing stopping anyone just re-sampling your instrumetn, but there's nothing stopping them doing that in any platform

You can load as much of each sound as you like by setting up the sampler pre-load size

- IIRC - no. Monophonic after touch yes(with caveats) but poly - no. But to be frank in the Drum ROMplers I've built poly aftertouch wasnt the way we ever managed choke/tail sample playback

GPU? Open Source? Not that I know of...

Mac M1 is supported, you will need a Mac (virtual or real) to compile MacOS plugins - you Mac doesnt need to be M1

Thanks a lot for your anwer
GPU? Open Source?
Open source, sorry, as you can see I'm not familiar with licences.
Monophonic after touch yes(with caveats) but poly - no
That's crazy.
90% of edrum on the market use polyAT messages when the cymbal is grabbed by the drummer.
As always, everything is made with a keyboard point of view... No polyaftertouch mean no edrum sampler for e-drummer. That a shame Hise don't hnadle them. So disapointing. I had some hope with Hise...Are you sure polyaAT could not be used at least in the midi editor ? Like transforming them into a midi note or a controller that then could be used inside Hise ?
If no, my journey with hise could stop here. That's unbelievable.

Ok well if you spend any time with the VKits from Yamaha or Roland you will quickly discover that they are not using polyAT for cymbals "grabbed" by the drummer - they are instead sending a whole other MIDI note number...

It's alas absolutly false... I have a TD-30, I own a TD-12 by the past, I'm on the VDrums forum for 15 years... I can said it for sure.

perhaps I am mis-remembering then - for all those Drum ROMplers I pointed at above...
-
@Lindon Still, you could ask @Christoph-Hart to implement polyAT...we'd all cheer from the sidelines...

@Lindon
I posted a topic in the feature request section... Seriously it's a must have. No edrum product is made without cymbal choke.I've just gone to the kontakt page and go back straight away here... I missed some of their condition to make a library for kontakt player. I really want to work with Hise.
For my very special case, I can use CC instead of polyaft... My edrum work with an Edrumin device (https://www.audiofront.net/eDRUMin.php) with a special firmware. I can ask its creator to replace the polyAT by CC, and before its done I can transform those polyAT into CC to start my journey in Hise. But for compatiblity reason, I would really have prefered to stay with polyAT.

@Sphere perhaps you will get polyAT -- lets wait and see...
