I've been very challenged to use the FX ("built-in") compressor.

Based on my own experience, and posts on the forum, it either…

      • Distorts the audio.
      • Drives it into an infinite feedback loop
      • Mutes everything.
      • Does nothing.
      • Cuts everything after the first few milliseconds.

What's the deal here? And if it's buggy, is the Script Node or Juice (via Script Node) any better?

      Thank you.

@clevername27 almost no one loves the default compressor. Faust may help you out here.

I believe that the built in Hise compressor (and also the scriptnode's compressor node) comes from here: https://www.musicdsp.org/en/latest/Effects/204-simple-compressor-class-c.html

But also there is a JUCE Compressor node inside the scriptnode that is called jcompressor. I haven't compared it to the native one tho.

As @Lindon adviced the Faust would be a good way to go.

@clevername27 Yep, its useless. Wonder if it could be fixed , would be nice to have a usable compressor.

Btw, anyone have a smart idea on how to implement makeup gain from the scriptnode comp?
The comp has mod out, just not sure how to implement it or how makeup gain usually works.

@lalalandsynth makeup gain is just an amplifier after the compressor circuit. Nothing fancy going on there. You can use a simple gain module for this.

@Dan-Korneff Yes, I meant automatic gain makeup.
